King’s Bounty detailed (King’s Bounty: The Legend)

Destructoid writes: "King’s Bounty: The Legend is an upcoming PC strategy RPG developed by 1C and published by Atari. Unlike most strategy RPGs, the concept behind King’s Bounty is to create a unique and rich experience outside of the turn-based style battles. The game certainly has an MMO vibe accompanying it. As I watched the presenter at Gen Con navigate the massive map, pick up quests, buy items, and interact with NPCs, all that I could think of was how inspirational World of Warcraft has been to the creation of even single-player PC RPGs.

Battles on the world map are not random. As players navigate from area to area, they will see the enemies and react according to their desire. The battle system is based in a grid composed of hexagons. The various classes in the game will be able to navigate the hexagons and choose attacks that befit them. I was pleasantly surprised by how small the battles appear to be. Players are constricted to a tiny grid instead of the massive and sprawling map. The fights that I saw lasted mere minutes as opposed to the large-scale crawl into which many SRPGs put players. Players may even have to fight their own weapons. Items in King’s Bounty are sentient, and the choice of the wrong party members may cause disagreement between the protagonist and his trusty monster-slayer.

Players will be able to choose from three types of characters, which are the Warrior, Paladin, and Mage. After picking this class, players will be spawned in the area of their character’s origin and be thrust into an extremely bright and exotic environment with several different landscapes that includes dungeons, cities, castles, and even giant turtles. King’s Bounty is slated for a holiday release this year, and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop as more details come in."

10 Questions for Will Wright (Spore)

Gamedaily.biz writes: "No disrespect to our previous 10 Questions luminaries, but this just might be our best candidate yet. This is your opportunity to ask Will Wright - send us your questions now!

While we wait for the Q&A to be completed by Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux (they’re in his hands now and we’re told we should have them soon), we’re very happy to announce today that legendary game designer Will Wright will be our next 10 Questions participant.

Wright is a man who needs little introduction, but just in case you’re reading this and you don’t follow the industry, he co-founded developer Maxis with Jeff Braun over 20 years ago and created a game called SimCity, which revolutionized the computer games industry. Many years later he created The Sims, which has gone on to become the best selling franchise of all time with over 100 million units sold – and it spawned an entire label/division within leading publisher EA (which acquired Maxis in 1997)."

Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria details (The Lord of the Rings Online: The Mines of Moria)

Destructoid writes: "The first thing that Adam Merskey, Director of Communications at Turbine told me was, ‘Nobody delivers as much content as Turbine.’ Over the course of Gen Con 2008, I’ve learned that may be completely true. Turbine has the excellent habit of never neglecting its fans, even if the game is nine years and has already been updated one hundred times. The idea behind this is one of fan loyalty and a sense of duty.

One game Merskey really takes pride in is Lord of the Rings Online and its upcoming expansion called "Mines of Moria." The expansion was originally unveiled at Connect ‘08 in March, but development on it keeps rolling. The new ideas being introduced, and the epic dungeon of Moria is sounding pretty good. As a Tolkien fan, I have to say I was highly impressed by Turbine’s offering. Their commitment to the fiction of Lord of the Rings seems as true as their commitment to continually updating their material.

Hit the break to learn more about the Mines of Moria expansion.

Age Of Conan Invades GC (Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures)

Don your loincloth, polish your bastard sword, and get ready to invade Germany as Funcom announces their plans for Age of Conan at next week’s Games Convention in Leipzig. They’ll be showing off new locations, new content, and new features of their massively-multiplayer swords & sorcery title during live stage shows at the convention, with Blue Orb on hand to show players how to work the game with a gamepad and the TripleHead2Go guys granting hands-on time with the game on a three-screen setup. There’s also loot to be had in the form of free game trials, limited edition game DVDs, and inflatable swords - because giving out real swords would have been pricey, and things would have gotten ugly rather quickly.

Capcom Still Has "Ace Up Its Sleeve" For Bionic Commando (Bionic Commando Rearmed)

Kotaku writes: "And not any ace, says Bionic Commando producer Ben Judd in his ear wax shirt, but a "fucking ace". At a small event for the launch of Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Judd said that the downloadable title was doing way better than it had been targeted. "There were people at Capcom who told me not to make this game," Judd said. While BC:R is doing well, Judd says that it won’t do nearly as well as the upcoming 3D version, which has apparently gotten a recent control tweak to make the game less frustrating."

Godfather II to offer 15-25 hours gameplay (The Godfather II)

Speaking to VideoGamer.com during a first look reveal of the game, Hunter Smith, the game’s executive producer at EA’s Redwood Stores studio, said that most gamers don’t have 80 to 100 hours to dedicate to anything, referencing Rockstar’s approach with rival sandbox gangster game Grand Theft Auto IV.

He said: "First time we were down this path we felt like that was an objective of ours, to have 50 to 80 hours of gameplay. We ended up just making s$!t up so we could fill that model. Now I think our range for the player will be somewhere in the 15 to 25 hour experience."

Smith also denied that the reduced single-player game length made Godfather II a worse game, citing the multiplayer and the real-time strategy elements as evidence of replayability.
